When using multi-port ball valves, it is regularly the case that larger switching distances than 90° are used, e.g. 180°- 270° or 360°.
In such cases, a gear box is normally installed between the valve and the actuator (e.g. for 180° 1:2 and for 360° 1:4). However, this increases the torque by the factor of the gear ratio.
The ratchet-coupling gives a solution without a large technical acting system, which means a standard single acting 90° actuator for all switch positions.
90° or even 120° switching steps are possible.
